Miia Korhonen
Physiotherapist, Small group coach
My passion lies in working with recreational athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and professional athletes to help them progress toward their individual goals and to move and live pain-free. The saying “an athlete never has a healthy day” is highly misleading—it normalizes pain and injuries, even though that shouldn’t be the case. Pain or painful movement is not normal; there is usually an underlying cause that can be addressed and treated. Even if your pain isn’t yet interfering with your life, it’s your body’s way of telling you something is wrong. That message is worth listening to, and it’s a good reason to see a professional.
It’s smart to come to physiotherapy or physio coaching before you “have to,” as early intervention can prevent more intense phases of pain management. This allows us to begin building a stronger, more capable, and more resilient body right away. During injuries or recovery periods, we may have to modify activity for a while, but that doesn’t mean progress has to stop. During rehab, I’ll help you improve other areas of performance, making the most of the time we have. In physio coaching, we can identify weaknesses or limiting factors in your body and performance, and address them before pain arises or training has to be limited. So even if you’re pain-free, I promise you’ll benefit from physiotherapy or physio coaching.
What drives me in physiotherapy is problem-solving and figuring out cause-and-effect: why something hurts, how we can treat it, and how to prevent it from happening again. That’s why my goal is to get to the root cause of the issue, not just treat the symptoms. We get there through a personalized and thorough interview, listening carefully, and detailed assessment. I want to help you return to a pain-free daily life—or to your sport—stronger and more capable than before. I continuously study and develop my professional skills, because I want to always serve my clients to the best of my ability.
My interest in individualized performance optimization also stems from rehabilitation and prevention. You set the goal, and I’ll be there to guide the project in the right direction. My own background in CrossFit, weightlifting, and running has made me especially passionate about injury prevention, performance enhancement, and treatment in those areas. Whether we’re talking about rehab or performance, it’s essential to understand the specific demands of the sport and the performance goals to tailor the training and rehab to your unique needs.
Everyone is welcome to my practice, regardless of background or goals. Helping people is what motivates me most in this field. And if I don’t know the answer to something, I’ll find out—or I’ll make sure to refer you to someone who does.
